ジャイルス・ピーターソン Presents サン・ラー&ヒズ・アーケストラ『To Those Of Earth… And Other Worlds』

2014年はサン・ラー生誕100周年を記念し、いろいろとアルバムが復刻され、書籍も刊行された。サン・ラーの楽団メンバーでもあったマーシャル・アレン監修のコンピ『In The Orbit Of Ra』もStrutから発表された。その1年後にリリースされる本コンピは同じくストラットからで、監修者はジャイルス・ピーターソン。DJの中でも熱心なサン・ラー信奉者である彼は、昔から様々なサン・ラー楽曲をプレイしており（実際にクラブでプレイできるサン・ラーの曲は限られるので、むしろラジオで多く紹介してきた）、DJサイドからサン・ラーの世界を紹介するのにこれほど相応しい人物もいない。クラブ方面でもっとも有名な「Space Is The Place」はフランスでのライブ・バージョンを収め、「Sleeping Beauty」「When There Is No Sun」というダークで孤高の美しさに満ちた名曲も収録する。「Somebody Else’s Idea」「Watusa」「Spontaneous Simplicity」などアフリカ色が強い作品を選ぶのも、ジャイルスらしい選曲センスだ。そのほか「On Jupiter」における不調和の美学、「Love In Outer Space」における宇宙へと広がる牧歌性、「There Are Other Worlds」における神秘性など、サン・ラーの魅力が凝縮された作品集となっている。
